In the year 2000 Cannondale Bicycle Company attempted to get into the motorcycle market with the introduction of its 400cc off-road motorcycles. While the technological innovation was ahead of its time the motorcycles proved to be overly expensive to build and Cannondale lost money on every bike it sold until the bikes ceased production just a few years later. After declaring bankruptcy the motorcycle division changed hands several times finally ending up being owned by ATK which is still producing basically the same bike under the ATK banner.
